Confirm residence and chargeable income outside the calculator
This surface supports only a person who has already established that Singapore resident rates apply for YA 2026. IRAS describes a common route based on at least 183 days in a year, as well as qualifying continuous two-year and three-year administrative concessions. One day-count field would not capture those facts, so Wage101 does not determine residence.
Chargeable income is also an established input, not annual salary copied into the calculator. The tool does not derive it after expenses, donations, deductions, personal reliefs or CPF relief.
- Confirm that resident individual rates apply for YA 2026.
- Establish chargeable income independently before entering it.
- Enter a rebate only after independently confirming that it applies.
- Use the separate non-resident guidance and calculation when resident status is not established.
Progressive bands tax slices, not the full amount at one rate
The calculator moves from the bottom of the resident schedule upward. Each rate applies only to the part of chargeable income inside that band, and the tax from all reached bands is added.
Marginal rate is the rate on the highest slice reached. Effective rate is net tax divided by entered chargeable income. They answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably.
Worked example: S$80,000 of resident chargeable income
| Chargeable-income slice | Rate and tax | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| First S$20,000 | 0% = S$0 | The first slice adds no tax but remains part of total chargeable income. |
| Next S$10,000 | 2% = S$200 | Only the S$20,000-to-S$30,000 slice receives the 2% rate. |
| Next S$10,000 | 3.5% = S$350 | Only the S$30,000-to-S$40,000 slice receives the 3.5% rate. |
| Next S$40,000 | 7% = S$2,800 | This completes the entered S$80,000; 7% is the marginal rate, not a flat rate. |
| Gross and net tax | S$3,350 with S$0 rebate | With no entered rebate, gross tax and net tax are the same. |
| Effective rate | S$3,350 รท S$80,000 = 4.1875% | This average rate on entered chargeable income is below the 7% marginal rate. |
A rebate input reduces tax only after it is confirmed
The calculator calculates gross resident tax first, then uses the smaller of the entered rebate and gross tax. This prevents the displayed net tax from falling below zero and separately shows any entered rebate that could not be used in the calculation.
That clamp is arithmetic, not an eligibility test. Wage101 does not identify a rebate, decide who qualifies, or carry an unused amount to another assessment year.
Keep CPF and annual resident tax as separate calculations
CPF contribution status is not tax-residence status. Citizenship, SPR year, age and the CPF Ordinary or Additional Wage ceilings are not inputs to this tax calculator.
The separate CPF calculator stops at salary after employee CPF before income tax. This resident-tax calculator starts from already-established chargeable income. Wage101 does not bridge the two with inferred CPF relief or salary deductions.
