Holiday Pay Using Your Rule Calculator methodology
Educational only: Work and pay decision support, not tax, legal, financial or career advice.

Scope: Market-neutral work and pay planning using your own assumptions.
1. Formulas and units
totalHolidayPay = basePayForNotWorkedHours + workedHolidayPay + fixedBonusWhere
- fixedBonus
- Fixed holiday bonus (currency units)Source: User assumption
- totalHolidayPay
- Total holiday pay (currency units)Source: Calculated output
- workedHolidayPay
- Worked holiday pay (currency units)Source: Calculated output
- basePayForNotWorkedHours
- Pay for hours not worked (currency units)Source: Calculated output
workedHolidayPay = workedHolidayHours ร baseHourlyRate ร selected rule factorWhere
- baseHourlyRate
- Base hourly rate (currency units/hour)Source: User assumption
- workedHolidayHours
- Holiday hours worked (hours)Source: User assumption
- factor
- Entered factor (factor)Source: User assumption
- workedHolidayPay
- Worked holiday pay (currency units)Source: Calculated output
basePayForNotWorkedHours = notWorkedHolidayHours ร baseHourlyRateWhere
- baseHourlyRate
- Base hourly rate (currency units/hour)Source: User assumption
- notWorkedHolidayHours
- Paid holiday hours not worked (hours)Source: User assumption
- basePayForNotWorkedHours
- Pay for hours not worked (currency units)Source: Calculated output
straightTimePay = (notWorkedHolidayHours + workedHolidayHours) ร baseHourlyRateWhere
- baseHourlyRate
- Base hourly rate (currency units/hour)Source: User assumption
- notWorkedHolidayHours
- Paid holiday hours not worked (hours)Source: User assumption
- workedHolidayHours
- Holiday hours worked (hours)Source: User assumption
- straightTimePay
- Straight-time comparison (currency units)Source: Calculated output
upliftOverStraightTime = totalHolidayPay โ straightTimePayWhere
- totalHolidayPay
- Total holiday pay (currency units)Source: Calculated output
- straightTimePay
- Straight-time comparison (currency units)Source: Calculated output
- upliftOverStraightTime
- Uplift over straight time (currency units)Source: Calculated output
Money inputs and outputs use the currency selected in the scenario without changing the canonical methodology. Pay, time, benefits and work-related costs use the units stated beside each input.
2. Worked example
Input assumptions
Apply a 1.5 total multiplier to six worked hours, plus eight paid hours not worked and a 50 bonus.
Calculation and outputs
Example
Apply a 1.5 total multiplier to six worked hours, plus eight paid hours not worked and a 50 bonus.
- Total holiday pay
- 560.00 currency units
- Worked holiday pay
- 270.00 currency units
- Pay for hours not worked
- 240.00 currency units
- Straight-time comparison
- 420.00 currency units
- Uplift over straight time
- 140.00 currency units
Worked, not-worked, straight-time and uplift amounts remain explicit.
Interpretation
Use the result only for the rule interpretation and factor you entered.
3. Validation and boundary checks
- Rule type is a closed categorical choice.
- Hours, rate, factor and bonus are non-negative.
- Total multiplier and premium addition are calculated differently.
4. Assumptions and source classification
- Every rule term is entered by the user.
- A premium addition factor of 0.5 means straight time plus 0.5 times base pay.
- A total multiplier of 1.5 means 1.5 times base pay.
This calculator has no current policy-data dependency. Its work and pay assumptions are user supplied. Registered family-level regression suites exercise the shared work-logic engine and worked-result reconciliation.
5. Limitations
- No legal entitlement, public-holiday calendar, employer policy or payroll tax is applied.
- The tool cannot determine which rule applies.
- Confirm rule wording and eligibility independently.
This is educational decision support, not personalised tax, legal, financial or career advice. Check the treatment of your circumstances under the rules that apply to you and seek qualified advice where appropriate.
6. Update and evidence policy
Registered family-level suites test formula invariants and example reconciliation; the release ledger records that coverage without claiming a separate oracle for every line of public copy. There is no official threshold or benchmark to refresh for this calculator. Work and pay inputs remain user-supplied because they vary by person, job and contract.
