Money inputs and outputs use the currency selected in the scenario without changing the canonical methodology. Pay, time, benefits and work-related costs use the units stated beside each input.

2. Worked example

Input assumptions

Tips of 80 per shift across five 8-hour shifts for 48 weeks, with base hourly pay of 15.

Calculation and outputs

Example

Tips of 80 per shift across five 8-hour shifts for 48 weeks, with base hourly pay of 15.

Weekly tips
400.00 currency units
Annual tips
19,200.00 currency units
Annual base pay
28,800.00 currency units
Combined annual income
48,000.00 currency units

Base pay and tips are annualised from the same shift schedule and shown separately before combining.

Interpretation

Use the annualised tips as a scenario built from your own representative shift average.

3. Validation and boundary checks

  • Zero shifts produce zero annual income.
  • Annual tips equal weekly tips multiplied by weeks.
  • Schedule values outside engine bounds return an input error.

4. Assumptions and source classification

  • Tips per shift represent a user-entered average.
  • The same shift pattern repeats across entered weeks.
  • Amounts are gross before tax and tip-sharing deductions.

This calculator has no current policy-data dependency. Its work and pay assumptions are user supplied. Registered family-level regression suites exercise the shared work-logic engine and worked-result reconciliation.

5. Limitations

  • Tips can vary materially by shift and season.
  • No local tipped-wage or tax rule is applied.
  • Cash reporting and tip-pool rules must be checked separately.

This is educational decision support, not personalised tax, legal, financial or career advice. Check the treatment of your circumstances under the rules that apply to you and seek qualified advice where appropriate.

6. Update and evidence policy

Registered family-level suites test formula invariants and example reconciliation; the release ledger records that coverage without claiming a separate oracle for every line of public copy. There is no official threshold or benchmark to refresh for this calculator. Work and pay inputs remain user-supplied because they vary by person, job and contract.
