Confirm the exact statutory redundancy-dismissal branch
This calculator supports Great Britain statutory notice for a confirmed redundancy dismissal. It does not determine eligibility and must not be used for resignation, Northern Ireland, a contract that provides more notice than the statutory minimum, or a case requiring payment-in-lieu or tax treatment.
The confirmation also excludes sickness, leave or layoff adjustments and cases where bonuses, commission or non-cash benefits must be incorporated. Those facts require payroll, contract or legal review before any calculation.
Completed service maps to a bounded number of notice weeks
| Completed continuous service | Statutory notice |
|---|---|
| Under 1 month | 0 weeks in this bounded formula |
| 1 month to under 2 years | 1 week |
| 2 years to under 12 years | 1 week per completed year |
| 12 years or more | 12 weeks maximum |
Enter whole months and the correct twelve-week average
Continuous service is entered in completed whole months. The calculator converts service of at least two years to completed years by taking the whole-month total divided by twelve and rounding down.
Average weekly pay is a confirmed input representing average weekly earnings over the twelve weeks before the notice period starts. Wage101 does not reconstruct that figure from payslips or decide which variable payments or adjustments belong in it.
84 months and £800 per week produce £5,600
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Completed service | 84 whole months ÷ 12 | 7 completed years |
| Statutory notice | 1 week per completed year | 7 weeks |
| Gross statutory notice pay | 7 × £800 | £5,600 |
Notice pay is not redundancy pay or a complete termination package
The output multiplies statutory notice weeks by the entered twelve-week average. It does not include the separate age-weighted statutory redundancy award, holiday pay, contractual enhancement, benefits, tax or National Insurance treatment.
PILON or PENP, resignation, contractual notice above the statutory minimum, sickness or leave adjustments, and bonus, commission or non-cash benefit cases fail closed. Use the result to understand the supported statutory trace, not to value a settlement.

The primary source is GOV.UK, Redundancy: your rights — Notice periods: https://www.gov.uk/redundancy-your-rights/notice-periods. Wage101 reviewed this page on 28 July 2026.
The general “handing in your notice” page covers a broader and potentially different decision, so it does not support this redundancy-dismissal formula. Review the article and calculator if the official source is unavailable or conflicts with either one.
