- Annual base pay (currency units/year)Source: Work record
- bonusAnnual
- Annual bonus value (currency units/year)Source: User assumption
- commissionAnnual
- Annual commission value (currency units/year)Source: User assumption
- otherCashAnnual
- Other annual cash (currency units/year)Source: Work record

benefitsAnnual = retirementEmployerAnnual + healthBenefitAnnual + equityAnnualValue + otherBenefitsAnnualWhere
- retirementEmployerAnnual
- Employer retirement value (currency units/year)Source: Work record
- healthBenefitAnnual
- Health benefit value (currency units/year)Source: User assumption
- equityAnnualValue

benefitsShareOfTotal = benefitsAnnual รท totalCompensationAnnualWhere

- Benefits share (share of total compensation)Source: Calculated output
Money inputs and outputs use the currency selected in the scenario without changing the canonical methodology. Pay, time, benefits and work-related costs use the units stated beside each input.
2. Worked example
Input assumptions
Base pay of 80,000 plus 10,000 variable cash and 21,000 in entered annual benefits.
Calculation and outputs
Example
Base pay of 80,000 plus 10,000 variable cash and 21,000 in entered annual benefits.
- Total annual compensation
- 111,000.00 currency units
- Annual cash compensation
- 90,000.00 currency units
- Annual benefits value
- 21,000.00 currency units
- Benefits share
- 18.9%
Cash and benefit components are shown separately before being combined.
Interpretation
Use total compensation only after checking that every component uses the same annual basis.
3. Validation and boundary checks
- All components use one annual basis.
- Total compensation equals cash compensation plus benefits.
- Negative or non-finite amounts return an input error.
4. Assumptions and source classification
- Values are gross and pre-tax.
- Benefit values are supplied by the user.
- No probability is applied unless already reflected in the entered amount.
This calculator has no current policy-data dependency. Its work and pay assumptions are user supplied. Registered family-level regression suites exercise the shared work-logic engine and worked-result reconciliation.
5. Limitations
- This does not calculate take-home pay.
- Benefit value can differ from employer cost.
- Equity and variable pay can be uncertain.
This is educational decision support, not personalised tax, legal, financial or career advice. Check the treatment of your circumstances under the rules that apply to you and seek qualified advice where appropriate.
6. Update and evidence policy
Registered family-level suites test formula invariants and example reconciliation; the release ledger records that coverage without claiming a separate oracle for every line of public copy. There is no official threshold or benchmark to refresh for this calculator. Work and pay inputs remain user-supplied because they vary by person, job and contract.
